The impeachment of the former Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Ann Chukwuneke has continued to illicit reactions.

Widows in the local council recently took over the headquarters with a call on the state governor, Willie Obiano to ensure the return of the embattled LG boss to her office.

The women who arrived the council headquarters, Woliwo, Onitsha at
about 7.00 am on Monday carried placards with some inscriptions:”Order
the return of Ann Chukwuneke as our council boss”,  “NCWS, Please look
into the problems of this woman, Ann Chukuneke, and “widows of Onitsha
South support Lady Ann and her administration”.

One of the leaders of the protesters, Martha Anozie said that the impeached local government boss was widow friendly and had supported the cause of widows in the area and pleaded with the state governor, not to join in witch-hunting the woman who had shown so much affection to the cause of widows in the council area.

Another woman, a seventy-five year old, Lucy Obieze in her tears pleaded with Gov. Obiano to allow Lady Chukwuneke continue her job as an elected local government chairman, adding that all those who plotted and supported the removal of the council boss would be cursed if they did not rescind their decision.

In an address to the women, the embattled local government boss Lady Chuwuneke lamented that her travail was orchestrated by selfish politicians who are interested in destabilising the council. She regretted that all efforts to get Gov. Obiano to intervene in the situation has failed.

Lady Chukwueke urged the women to remain calm and law-abiding as all injustice she had been put through will not go unaddressed.

HOMELAND NEWS reports that some weeks ago, some traders attacked the LG boss while she was on a traffic monitoring tour within the council area. She was briefly hospitalised before returning to office. The traders accused her of imposing illegal levies and high handedness.
